How To Grow A Beard
5 Tips for Growing a Beard
So you're wondering how to grow a beard? Maybe you already have one, but it's not the way you want it. Perhaps it has patches that won’t fill in, or maybe you have never grown a beard. No matter where you are on your beard journey, I will ensure that today you have a better understanding of what it takes to grow a beard. More importantly, you’ll learn how to maintain a healthy and hydrated beard because that's a Rich Beard!
Men have been growing beards since the dawn of time. It's one of the most manly things we can do without trying. Here are five tips, pointers, and tricks I have picked up over the years that have helped me and my clients as a barber maintain a perfect beard.
1. Find a Good Barber
First things first: you must find a barber you can rely on who has a beard himself, preferably, and specializes in beards. Here's why: they deal with countless clients who have different beard growth patterns and individual issues, such as skin and hair health that affects new hair growth or issues with growing in correctly. Odds are they will be professional enough to help you with all your needs (at least we both hope!).
A great barber should have a good vision to help you find the best style for your beard, even if you don't have one yet. If you know your end goal for what you want your beard to look like, an experienced barber should be able to guide you there within 90 days, especially if the correct beard products are used.
2. Use Beard Oil and Beard Balm Twice a Day
This is non-negotiable: you have to use these two products daily. I always say, and will continue to say, that these are the two most important products you need for your beard to be healthy. If you want to fill in your beard, get rid of itchiness, dandruff, or a dry beard with frail hairs, you should use beard oil and beard balm once in the morning and once at night. I recommend to all The Rich Beard clients that you need to do this twice a day, and if you can’t, then at least once a day. Trust me, you will start to notice a difference after two weeks of usage, and especially after 30 days.
3. Beard Wash, Not Hair Shampoo
When you wash your beard, you have to use a beard wash—not regular hair shampoo. Regular shampoo just won’t work. It actually causes more damage than good for you, and here's why: your face has a different pH level, and you have softer skin on your face than the hair on your scalp. Regular hair shampoo will cause your beard hairs to become more damaged and weak, stripping out the oils essential for your beard health.
Beard wash will:
- Clean and nourish your beard
- Balance facial pH for healthier skin
- Hydrate your beard
- Make your beard softer
- Make your beard healthier
With all this in mind, do not make the mistake of using regular hair shampoo on your beard; be sure to use beard wash.
4. Comb or Brush
Should you comb or brush your beard?
I always recommend that my clients keep a comb on them at all times because, throughout the day, your beard can become messy, and the hairs can get tangled. Keeping a comb handy will help straighten out your beard and encourage new hairs to grow in the direction you style them.
A beard brush is also a great tool to have if your beard is short and not long enough for a comb yet. Brushing helps stimulate blood flow, which promotes hair growth. So if you have patches in your beard, keep this in mind: a brush can help you out tremendously! A brush is also great for evenly distributing your beard products throughout your beard after you apply beard oil and beard balm. Once your beard gets longer than 6mm, I recommend using a comb; at this length, you could still use both a brush and a comb, but beyond 6mm, a brush won't be as beneficial.
5. Patience
Lastly, you need to be patient. Beards are an art, and every man's beard grows differently. They are a waiting game, and you have to be consistent with using the correct products and having a professional barber take the proper steps to guide you to where you want to be.
I hope this helps you! Thanks for reading.
